We arrived at the port of Monte Carlo today. We took the ship's tender ashore, then spent a few hours in Old Monaco. The harbour is stunning.
We saw the building of the 20th century Oceanographic Museum, and the garden near by on the cliffs of Old Monaco overlooking the sea. Then we saw St. Nicholas Cathedral were Princess Grace and Prince Rainier of Monaco have been lain to rest inside. We entered the Royal Palace of the Grimaldis, and watched the changing of the guards outside.
We were given an hour or so to wander about Old Monaco. Not much happening on a Sunday, only the souvenir stores were open, and the local flea market. I spotted Prince Albert as he walked passed me with his security and photographer. I told some of the ladies in our group and they ran off to see him, all star struck. No photos were allowed, but many got the sneaky shots.
St. Nicholas Cathedral
Inside St. Nicholas Cathedral, where Princess Grace's wedding took place, and now the site of her tomb. After Grace Kelly was married here in 1956, the amount of annual visitors to Monaco doubled.
Royal Palace of the Grimaldis, which features medieval towers and old cannons and cannon balls out front. The changing of the guards happens every hour.
Tomorrow we will visit Barcelona.
